power has started to fail periodically. i suspect either the power supply or the c to c cable. does anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening? purchased october 28,24.
Hello @markhwhite
Do you use our official adaptor and usb cable ? What you mean about ‘power start to fail’?
yes, your adapter and cable, from day one. the first time it happened, the computer just died unexpectedly. when i finally got it started, i realized the internal battery was depleted. i disconnected and reconnected the power cord at both ends. then the battery started charging and the computer came to life. then after a while, i got a low battery warning so i played with the plugs again and it started charging. cable has always been connected to the docking station. i have been keeping a close eye on the power icon. so far it hasn’t happened again. i gave me quite a scare. that is what made me question the cable or the power supply.
Hello @markhwhite
Could you provide the below information to us?
- Provide the BIOS & EC version to us, you can get sucn information from Mind App
- Could you try to just use Mind and remove the Dock the attach the adaptor to Mind directly to check whether this issue still exist?
- Could you also try to check with other 20V-3.25A 65W adaptor and USB C cable if possible?
Bios is 1.02 “EC” not shown on info list. i have moved the power cord to the mind but the dock is still in place as it has 2 monitors, USB, and network connected. 2 USB ports are used, 1 for an external drive and the other for several USB devices through a separately powered hub. i do not have a spare pd cable or power supply. i would have to buy them if it becomes necessary.
Hello @markhwhite
Could you remove the Dock and just use Mind to check whether you still has the power issue?
i had the mind connected directly to power but still using the dock and the problem seemed to go away. i have since connected power through the dock and it is still OK. i have also installed an onscreen power meter so that i can monitor the problem. i have a question though, i have seen various poser supplies of this type shut down if they get overloaded or close to their capacity, just wondering.
something more to consider. my normal practice is to shut down the computer when i am not using it. i also turn off all the power to my equipment as well. i noticed that when i started, the battery had drained somewhat, so i went into the mind settings and changed to hibernate, and the battery is no longer draining when the computer is shut down. however, it should not use battery regardless of settings when it is shut down. you might want to check and see why this is so.
How long you leave the Mind power off with all power shutdown before you power on it?
Usually 18 to 24 hours
What mode after 18 ~ 24 hours will cause the battery draining?
actually it did drain 5% overnight with the power off and set to hibernate even though i did a full shutdown. there is a small leak in there somewhere.
Just for comparison. My device (Mind 2) charged to 80% (Smart Charging activated) drains 6% of the battery after 8 - 8.5 hours when it is switched off and removed from the dock.
so as with any computer, when you shut it down, it should not drain the battery at all. therefore there must be a current leak somewhere. Khadas should be looking into this.
i have observed the battery over several days now and it loses about 5% overnight even though i’ve done a total shutdown. this should not happen. so if the Khadas team is reading this, there is a problem to be solved. note, i do leave the mind 2 in the dock when i turn off the power. so lets hear from the experts.
i haven’t heard anything from Khadas. hey guys, it would be nice to get a response from the experts.
i do leave the mind 2 in the dock when i turn off the power.
What do you mean by “turn off power”?
Do you mean that you disconnect the dock from the power supply or just shut down the device? In the latter case, the battery should not discharge.
I disconnect the dock from power. That’s why I’m concerned about battery drain when I do a system shutdown.
Well, that power drain also happend to my device.
so where is Khadas. you would think they would have something to say. come on guys, lets hear from you.
