New Mind 2 - Power Issues (wont run on wall power)

Hello, I have 2x Mind2 units, first one booted up no issues and I love it.

However now that I am working on my wife’s unit I am having issues with power. I have had to leave it charging for 6 hours so I could get it to stay powered long enough to get through Windows setup, and now after another 6 it wont stay powered for more then 2min. So I was able to get into the MindApp and it is on BIOS 1.03, same as my unit.

I am using the included charger so far, and it works just fine on my unit. And it seems to work fine on my wife’s. But it wont run off the wall power, it seems to want to only run on battery when booted.

Any suggestions on what I can do to possibly fix the unit so I don’t have to do an RMA?

Thank you,
Opi

Thanks for the details! Just to clarify—when you mention wall power, are you referring to the power from your wall outlet? So it works well with our official adaptor?

And also provide the below information to us:

  • When you started the device, was it plugged into the power adapter?
  • While using the device, did you leave the adapter connected the whole time?
  • After turning it on, did anything unusual happen within 2 minutes? For example, did it suddenly sleep or turn off?

Hi Numbbq,

I have tried a Dell USB-C charger (100w capable) with the same issue. And sorry, wall power means power adapter.

Yes, when started it is connected to a)USB-C Power b)HDMI c)Simple USB Keyboard & Mouse

Yes, I left it connected to the USB-C Power the whole time.

Yes, within the 2min before it powered off the battery was quickly discharging (about 1% a second). CPU usage was about 10%, and GPU was at 0% utilization. So seemed fine except the battery discharge rate.

Part of me wants to open it up and disconnect the battery to see if that will help, but don’t want to break warranty.

Thanks for the quick reply : )

Hello,
I saw in your previous description that the machine can run normally using the original adapter we provide, but it cannot run normally using wall power, so I want to know if the wall power is a power supply from other brands?

So with our offiicial adaptor works well?

Sadly no, issue is present on both the official power adapter and a Dell one. It will charge up just fine (slowly) but once I power it on the Mind2 looks to only draw power from the battery and drains it very quickly (100% to dead in about 2min).

Sorry, my brain did not describe the situation well.

I have two different Mind2 units. My unit, and my wife’s. My unit works just fine zero issues at all no matter the power adapter I use (Khadas or Dell).

My wife’s unit is the one with issues. It is slow to charge on both the Khadas power adapter and my Dell one. And this is true on both of the USB-C ports on the Mind2. Additionally, once it is charged up and I am able to boot into windows (which took a while to accomplish), the battery is discharging very quickly, at about 1% a second until it powers off at 10%.

I am not able to install any system updates in this amount of time to possibly fix the issue. Normally I would remove the battery as part of testing to see if it is just a bad battery, but I don’t want to void the warranty doing this unless support tells me to.

Hello,
Thank you for your detailed reply. After reading your reply, I have a few questions. I hope you can help me. Thank you;

  1. Can the machine only be turned on when the battery is fully charged? Or can it be turned on normally when the power adapter is connected?
  2. When the power adapter is connected, will the battery also lose power? And does the system display the battery charging icon?
  3. When the power adapter is connected, the battery is out of power. Can the machine still be used normally?

If the machine can be turned on and used normally when the power adapter is connected, it means that there should be a problem with the battery. If there is a problem with the battery, you can contact our after-sales service.

  1. yes it will only turn on when the battery is charged. No, it won’t turn with a dead battery while plugged into the power adapter.

  2. yes when booted, and power adapter is connected, it is loosing battery %. Yes the battery icon shows as charging.

  3. no, once the battery runs down to 0% it shuts down and cannot be turned back on until it has sat for multiple hours to charge the battery back up.

I’ll reach out to the support email and include a link to this discussion:)

Hello, thank you for your reply. You can try the following methods to see if it helps you.

  1. Connect the power adapter. When the device is turned on or off, press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Release the power button after the power light flashes, disconnect the adapter, wait for 3 seconds, re-plug the power adapter, and then press the power button to turn on the device to check if it can return to normal.

If the above method does not work, I will ask after-sales service to contact you. Thank you.

Sadly that did not help, still had continues power drain while attached to the khadas power adapter until it ultimately shut down : /

edit: I just sent an email in to support : )
