Extreme cooling help

You didnt get enough copper!

Hey i think i see a few chuckie cheese tokens in there too! :grinning:

starts laughing then choking

Oh yeah, that tooā€¦ :sweat_smile:
you do weird things when you are a 10 year old :rofl:

What could I do to kill the time ?.. :grin:

the answer is obvious
:grin:

I donā€™t have the CD for that game buddyā€¦ :sob:

Also my mom isnā€™t really comfortable with me playing ā€œArmy gamesā€, thinks it is too violent, my dad used to play a ton of video games a long time ago, Mario, pocket tanks, etc. he even does now, but currently he plays this dangerous game called Stock market trading :grimacing:

somehow my mom is ok with thatā€¦ :thinking:

you helped people enough today buddy, you need to rest
:slightly_smiling_face:

That is a cute game, lots of interesting weapons. :slightly_smiling_face:

yep, I often play it in my free time, me and my dad played it when I was a little kid, it was a nice father-son bonding experience, :smile:

man, the early 2000ā€™s such happy lovable times, we were a bit less technologically advanced, but I donā€™t mind, they were such happy timesā€¦

Hello,

There is a test image about over-clocking for VIM3.

NOTE: We canā€™t guarantee over-clocking frequency can work on all VIM3, so please backup your system if it has important data.

Based on VIM3_Ubuntu-server-focal_Linux-4.9_arm64_EMMC_V0.9-20200530 or self build image with latest fenix.

Upgrade:

$ wget https://dl.khadas.com/Firmware/test/linux-dtb-amlogic-4.9_0.9.2_arm64.deb
$ wget https://dl.khadas.com/Firmware/test/linux-image-amlogic-4.9_0.9.2_arm64.deb
$ wget https://dl.khadas.com/Firmware/test/linux-board-package-focal-vim3_0.9.2_arm64.deb
$ sudo dpkg -i *.deb
$ sync
$ reboot

After reboot, you can edit /boot/env.txt to setup the maximum frequency.

  • max_freq_a53 - Little core, default value is 1800MHz
  • max_freq_a73 - Big core, default value is 2208MHz

After change the frequency, you need to reboot the board.

Check:

Little core:

root@Khadas:~# cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpufreq/policy0/cpuinfo_cur_freq
2304000

Big core:

root@Khadas:~# cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpufreq/policy2/cpuinfo_cur_freq
2496000

@Numbqq this is great !!! does the overclock work in your office development ? has it been stable in your tests ?

It works on my board, but we need more testing.

Ok, I will run some tests today on my end,
I will communicate about the performance and stability as wellā€¦

@numbqq just one more small question,
What should I have the CPU stepping frequency as ?

i.e what steps of frequency increments do I use ? 108 MHz per each step ?

also, why is there no voltage control ? higher clockrate will demand higher CPU voltageā€¦

That means it will be capped with a bottleneck once it reaches the highest frequencyā€¦

voltage control will be done in dtbā€¦

anyway there is not much room in increasing volatge default one was using 1.03V iirc and max the VRM can do was 1.04V

Now VIM3 can reclaim the title of fastest ARM SBC in the marketā€¦

Heck yea, take the N2+ stick the back into the dirt with its brotherā€¦
Letā€™s see how fast this baby goesā€¦ :crazy_face:

@numbqq IS it possible to tell us what change was doneā€¦? I am really keen to knowā€¦
I understand there is a change in kernel but just what to know what it is

Yeah, me too, I want to know where changes were made for overclocking to be possibleā€¦
We were on this topic for almost half a year now and had no answer, and now it comes out of plain thin air :smiley:

I have already started the testing to see how fast it goes, time to stick it to the max :metal:

Ok,
I ran mine and tested sys-bench with stock clock and over clock:
Firmware: VIM3_Ubuntu-gnome-focal_Linux-4.9_arm64_EMMC_V0.9.2-20200719

Stock clock: (2.2GHz and 1.8GHz)

Overclock: (2.4GHz and 2.3GHz)
image

From the results above, the performance increase is: 15.6% (overall)

The device was stable as well, there werenā€™t any problems at allā€¦

Need to see how well the device does with higher clocksā€¦
@Numbqq will it have the ability to go any higher ? Is the firware unlock or is 2.4GHz the max for nowā€¦ ?

I got my Khads passive sinks today (i ordered 2)

DId anyone else get theirs yet?
