Edge2 ethernet problem

Which version of system do you use? Khadas official images, self built images, or others?

Linux Khadas 5.10.198

Please describe your issue below:

We observed a situation a couple of times like this:

  • Although the Edge2 has IP address on the ethernet interface connected over USB dongle, the IP address is not reachable from other hosts in the same network.
  • Edge2 also cannot ping google.com and other hosts in the network. That means, device thinks it has the IP address but it already dropped from the router.
  • At this stage, if we plug out the USB ethernet dongle, device freezes. The only way to bring it back is reboot.

Post a console log of your issue below:

There is nothing unusaul in the logs. Especially once the device freezes, nothing is printed.

What device are you using?

It’s standard TPLink USB 3.0 dongle.

$lsusb
$sudo dmesg | grep USB

With it plugged in:

$sudo ifconfig

Are you sure wired is turned on, it should show something like enpxxx or eth0. What do you see in settings>network? It should at least show your native ethernet port.

Also, does not look like the TP link device is enumerated. If the kernel driver is not in mainline you are out of luck on getting it running.

Sorry, somehow the device switched to wifi. Please see the latest screenshot and output. Our devices always gets the interface starting with enx…

It might not work, when you do not see the TP link device enumerated or listed in lsusb its not going to work unless you create a driver for it. That would not even be considered as an option due to the lack of information from TP link plus the time you will spend. Stuff like that can easily burn $20,000 USD in labor.

Not sure what the end plan is with that adapter, you have wired working already with the native port.

Are you able to connect to internet using the native port?

If you cannot connect to internet with the native port this might be config issue with your internet gateway. For that you will need admin access to the backend configuration.

We don’t have any problem with connecting to internet. This one works well in many deployments that we have. As you can see from both the screenshot and ifconfig output, it has everything to work and it works %99 of the time. I don’t understand why you say we need a driver for this? The standard driver comes with Ubuntu immidiately recognize and wires up the adapter to network.

Our problem is time to time, this device thinks it’s connected time to time although the router drops it’s IP address and that time we can’t ping both default GW and internet hosts.

Can you please explain why this can happen?

Its hard to say, since it works intermittently it might be the device is flaky. Have you tried another one and does it do the same? I did not see it acknowledged by the kernel, unless it is under a different name, other than tp link.

Yes I’ve tried with another ethernet adapter which is Type-C. Same thing happened with that dongle too after a certain time.

If it works fine on a different board but same model it might be an issue with hardware. If occurs consistently on 2 different boards and 2 different devices it might be something that will not be solved easily. I am out of suggestions on this other than maybe go to a vim 3 and see what happens with that one.

Does the board still has the IP address of ifconfig ? Have you checked with other router? And only you have this issues of others also have the same issue?

BTW, could you provide the link to your device?

Board still shows the IP address in the ifconfig output. We checked with router guys and they confirmed that IP address doesn’t belong to Khadas board anymore. However, board thinks still it has the IP address. When you say link, what do you mean?

Set your connection as static and try that. If the mac does not roll when you are using the native ethernet port on the board your problem is either a flaky usb adapter or your internet gateway has an issue.

The buy link, we will try to get the same one to check.

This is the link we bought Edge 2. It’s the Pro version of Edge2 ARM Pc.

Hello @burak.cakmak

I mean the link you buy the ethernet adaptor.

This is the ethernet adaptor that we use.

Hello @burak.cakmak

Does this one same with yours?
