Does the VIM1S still support CoreELEC?

Khadas sponsors CoreELEC, and CoreELEC appear to support all current Khadas devices, but how well is actual support for the VIM1S?

CoreELEC on a VIM4 works quite well, but for the VIM1S I see bad signs:

  • OOWOW only offers CoreELEC Nexus images (version 20.*)
  • OOWOW does not offer latest Nexus image (version 20.5)
  • OOWOW does not offer any current stable Omega image (version 21.*)
  • Updating from within CoreELEC to version 21.3 causes boot loop
  • Other post describing this issue remains unanswered
  • Updating from within CoreELEC to alpha Piers version 22 causes boot freeze

Currently, version 21.2 is the latest one working. Autoupdate must be disabled, because once upgraded to 21.3, the only way to recover is to install an older version from scratch.

This is the unanswered post that describes the very same issue:

Hello @pimzand

Maybe you can try the latest version from CoreELEC website here:

https://github.com/CoreELEC/CoreELEC/releases/download/21.3-Omega/CoreELEC-Amlogic-ne.aarch64-21.3-Omega-Khadas_VIM1S.img.gz

Hi,

It does not really matter whether you directly install https://github.com/CoreELEC/CoreELEC/releases/download/21.3-Omega/CoreELEC-Amlogic-ne.aarch64-21.3-Omega-Khadas_VIM1S.img.gz from a USB drive, or upgrade using https://github.com/CoreELEC/CoreELEC/releases/download/21.3-Omega/CoreELEC-Amlogic-ne.aarch64-21.3-Omega.tar from a prior version.

In both cases, the VIM1S will enter a boot loop with no escape other than a fresh install of an older installation image.

In contrast, the exact same image and update work just fine on a VIM4. Could it be a hardware limitation, like not enough RAM? If so, customers should be aware in advance.

Hello @pimzand

We have reproduce this issue with latest image, we will check with CE team about this issue, thanks for your feedback.

Hello @pimzand

Could you check with this nightly build?
