X server failed to start Ubuntu20.04 Vim4

Hello there,
I’m looking for some help to start the X service. I can’ t start X server successfully on Vim4, no matter if I use the official Ubuntu20.04 image or the one compiled by fenix. Gnome Xfce
gnome can be installed, but whenever I switch to the GUI, the purple screen always flashes once and then the screen is dark. Apparently I can’t access the GUI, however when I installed nomachine, I can access the GUI desktop remotely through this software, when and only when nomachine’s desktop service is enabled. I checked the status of systemctl. gdm3 is activated normally, but lightdm is not. lightdm --test-mode --debug shows that this is due to a failed D-bus connection. xinit command shows an error. The log shows the following. Any help to fix the desktop service?

Try 22.04 with gnome or server.

Yes, ubuntu22 works well. But I can only use the ubuntu20, cause the ROS1 only support upto ubuntu20. I do not have any other choice. The GUI desktop is not necessary for me, but it would be better if it could be fixed.

What is ROS1, I tried to search it and did not find anything related to computers.

Do you get an error message that shows a missing file when trying to run it on 22?

I just found what ROS is for and did find they do have a version for 22.

Would it be possible to rework the code to run on the newer release?

ROS1 is just named it compared with ROS2. ROS1 is actually ROS-noetic for Ubuntu20.04 or ROS-melodic for Ubuntu18.04. and there will not be a new version of ROS1 for Ubuntu22.04, because the Noetic is last version and for Ubuntu 22.04, pepole will accept with ROS2. Well if I rework the code to run on the ROS2, It will take me too long to get used to this new environment, after all, I have a lot of programs to migrate. That’ s why some one else also mentioned ubuntu20 version. It’'s because ROS1 is only supported up to Ubuntu20.

It will just make you a much better programmer

Thanks, but :joy: :joy: :joy:It does take some time.

Xserver won’t run on the vim4 as there is no support for X11 :stuck_out_tongue:
GPU library only supports wayland. I have used vnc software (tightvncserver) to access desktop through wayland and it does work.

cheers

Yes, I used Nomachine. And it works. But the important thing to me is that it seems to affect the driver of d435i. Because the video streams I receive have severe lag. This seems to be also the cause of the WiFi. But I am not sure yet. So. Yeah if you just want to log in with GUI.
