Where do the blue and pink thermal pads go on the VIM3L?

Hi All,

I have received my new VIM3L to replace my VIM3 that went missing in the mail between here and Hong Kong, I ordered the new heat sink and it includes two pads which are blue and pink. Would someone please let me know where to fit these two pads?

Thanks and Cheers,

D.

Hello, Please have a look here and here.
These show different VIM models, but the procedure is similar for all.

Thank you RDFTKV. I see where the blue pad goes but I’m still in the dark about the pink pad…is the pink pad optional?

I believe it is blue pad for the VIMs and pink pads for the Edge boards,

just place it straight on the SoC and screw the heatsink down, balance the tension on all the screws while doing so…

To my knowledge the pink pad comes with the passive heatsink. As Electr1 stated, center the thermal pad over the CPU. The pad is sandwiched between the CPU and the heatsink.

Thank you guys. I have the blue thermal pad installed as required.

hi, they can only differ in thermal conductivity, I won’t say for sure, but it seems that pink has it higher, but it needs to be clarified

It seems it is just a subtle color change…

The main difference is the Thickness however…
I am not sure if the conductivity is for the pads entirely or for the internal material difference…

if it is due to slight material difference…
the VIMs one has the higher conductivity…
