Tone Board for VIM and stand alone

I have tried to find an answer but I am confused with the answers in the posts vs the product info.
What I want is a Tone board that I can put on a VIM but if I want to swap it out and use as a standalone DAC (such as with my laptop) I can.

Can I take the Tone VIM board version off of the VIM, and plug it into my laptop with a usb for power and data and have a stand alone DAC?

Hello, Yes, the VIMs version of the Tone board can be used either way.
Connect via VIM’s GPIO or USB on PC/Laptop.
I sometimes use my VIM version as a stand alone with my Windows laptop.
