Tone 2 Pro firmware (1.41) is borderline overheating

Anyone else noticed?

It used to run hot on previous firmwares but nothing concerning. With 1.41 its almost too hot to touch for longer than than a few seconds which is pretty concerning considering how little power it should be drawing.

Its even warming up the 2cm thick desk it sits on. On previous firmwares it would just mildly warm the surface near it. I know this is anecdotal but its still alarming to me.

I am dissapointed how quick you guys have abandoned development for it.

At least i think this issue should be checked out.

Hi
The Power consumption of Tone2 Pro is shown below the following picture. It has 3W maximum power.
The different firmware can not affect the consumption.

We had tested for half an hour when play PCM768 at maximum volume with 600ohm 3.5mm headphone, the temperature of the enclosure raised from 27℃ to 38℃.Can I check some message following with you?

  • Do you plug both 3.5mm headphone and 4.4mm headphone?
  • What is the impedance of your headphone?
  • What is the temperature of your environment?

Hi
I have tested the consumption of two tone2 Pro with V1.3 and V1.41 firmware. The reasult is that the power of V1.41 is a little lower than V1.3.You can check our report about this.In order to get the stable power,I use tone2 pro to play 1kHz 0dB sine wave.

I’ve recently updated firmware and experience the same issue. Tone2 Pro is hot even while idle (meaning - there is nothing played, it’s just on).

Yes,tone2 pro cannot come into sleep mode, because xmos cannot do that.

Perhaps it was the weather, but im still suspicious, i just had to accept to ignore it as long as it keeps working.

its out of warraty, i bought it around the second/third batch, cant remember exactly but the SN is 13A30023. a few months ago the encoder (knob) became super loose, still works but it feels like its going to fall off any day, thankfully i rarely use it. Anyway, could i still send it to you for a repair? i believe the encoder was already faulty from factory because while rotating it, felt like it was filled with dirt and weird clicks and also was very iffy detecting steps, with an firmware update, it improved detecting step so i decided to not contact you for warranty.

I just had a look at a teardown photo and appears like it should be fairly easy to replace by myself, if you could provide an encoder/knob replacement i would be more than happy. If only the encoder is required and avaliable in aliexpress, just give me the part number and that would be fine aswell.

Hi
We can help you to replace the knob or encoder, you should go after-sales by contact our saleman and delivery it to us ,because it may be a little hard for you to do that by yourself.

Could you please provide details on where you made your purchase and the corresponding order number?
