Oowow sytem fail issue

Which system do you use? Android, Ubuntu, OOWOW or others?

OOWOW

Which version of system do you use? Please provide the version of the system here:

beta 220823.000

Please describe your issue below:

I want to dump a current working VIM1S android system to either SD or USB so i can restore it onto a large quantity of other VIM1S boards going into production, when i try to select “Format dumps storage USB” or “Format dumps storage SD” i just get a “System fail” message

How can i best achieve this? the working board is ready to go, i just need to replicate it now

@billysdomain OOWOW on the VIM1S is on the SPI flash, so that feature will not work, you can use a USB disk formatted to ExFAT and ignore the formatting step, and proceed to dump from eMMC.

Regards.

Hi,

My USB disk is formatted to exFAT:

But when i select “Dump image from eMMC” it cannot be found

I have tried to select “Mount dumps storage SD/USB” also first

I have followed the instructions in this article

how-to-back-up-emmc-to-usb/18168

and seem to have dumped 1.2G to the USB drive

Now i boot up a new VIM1S board, its OOWOW version is 230606

how do i write the image on the usb to eMMC? as i seem to just go around in circles using the Write Image to eMMC menu option

I think the write image to usb is still not working, i get the following message:

but the USB drive is empty

  1. please write a OOWOW versions 1st
  2. i will check latest version very soon and replay to you later tnx

ok, if I write a new version of OOWOW, will it erase the Android installation also?

@billysdomain you need to write it to the USB, not the eMMC.

Path …/USB-sda1-ICUSB

ICUSB is the name of my USB drive
The option to Dump to USB simply doesnt work

I fear this is rather buggy

@Electr1 please feel free to give some instructions on how exactly to do this as the menu options are not doing what they say

@billysdomain sorry for the oversight,

  1. Download the OOWOW image for the VIM1S: https://dl.khadas.com/products/oowow/system/vim1s-oowow-latest-sd.img.gz

  2. Extract the image file and flash it to your USB disk

  3. Connect the USB disk to your VIM4

  4. Continue the rest of the steps: format dumps → dump MMC → …

@Electr1 Many thanks, i am using the VIM1S, so assume the process is the same with correct selection of VIM1S image?

oops, yes you should be using the VIM1S image
I will modify it in the original post.

@Electr1 ok, so now i have a rescue disk

are there any missing steps between point 3 and 4? as how do i get the VIM1S to boot using this USB disk? I have tried a restart with it plugged in but it just gets ignored and boots to android

@Electr1 it seems nothing i try can get it to boot from the USB drive with the new OOWOW image, perhaps due to the old beta version of OOWOW installed?

I think @hyphop may be correct in that i need to write a newer version, but how to do this if i cannot boot.

i have the following menu:

Current KBI state is set to mmc

and i can access a BusyBox rescue prompt - can i do anything with these to help?

Thanks for your help, it is most appreciated

  1. OOWOW stored into SPI flash
  2. Just boot into OOWOW → press KEY_F + reset
  3. check version
  4. update to latest - just need internet connection - no need to do special steps - all must going automatically
  1. this option only for oowow system which was started from SD or USB - and not for onboard integrated OOWOW

  2. if you need format USB storage - just select FORMAT USB USER STORAGE DISK

for mass clonning oowow have special option to automate this process - if u still need it - i can assis and help you - wellcome

hi @hyphop many thanks for your instructions

The update worked, then i format the disk - also success

then i dump eMMC to USB and it gets to about 97% and then this happens:

Is this expected? same has happened on two tries

looks like it has no impact, i was able to restore the image on the new devices - @Electr1 & @hyphop thanks for your help with this.
