New Khadas Boards

It’s been a while since I last asked about the possibility of a Khadas Edge 3 board after learning about the RK3688 chipset. All of the marketing from Khadas lately has been solely for Mind. Are there any new Khadas SBCs coming, or has SBC development stopped now and everything being focussed on Mind?

Hello, Sir or Madam,

KHADAS started with SBCs and the maker spirit is in our DNA—we’re not going anywhere. We’ve simply become a bit more cautious; we haven’t stopped moving forward, and we look forward to introducing our upcoming new products to you.

Recently, we had an open discussion with Rockchip: the RK3688 is still being designed and may be released in one to two years, while the RK3588 remains Rockchip’s flagship chip for now.

Thanks for keeping an eye on us, and hit us up anytime with your brilliant ideas!

That was all very cleverly answered without answering anything - do you practice politics, by chance :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Can we expect any new Khadas SBCs in the near to medium term? In particular, a continuation of the Edge series? These, in my experience, are the best SBCs you offer from an out-of-the-box perspective in terms of price and performance. I’d very much be interested in buying an Edge 3 board if it were a respectable successor in hardware specifications.

Or even a version of the Edge 2 with more TOPS (perhaps multiple NPUs working together) and 32GB/64GB of RAM (possibly more given the newer power-hungry AI PCs releasing with up to 128GB RAM) - I think there would definitely be buyers for such SBC form-factor powerhouses!

Or even an expansion board containing more NPUs or RAM or storage. Though I have no idea how this would be technically possible. But it would be awesome!

Thank you for the suggestion—adding more NPUs or expanding RAM is indeed a brilliant idea. Have you ever considered building yourself a supercomputer via clustering? I’d also like to recommend RK’s coprocessor accelerator cards; both approaches might solve the problem. If we limit ourselves to boosting NPUs on a single SBC, we probably have to wait for a chip upgrade—namely, the RK3688.

Unfortunately, the release date of the RK3688 is still completely uncertain; Rockchip hasn’t even finished the design, and we have no idea how far along they are. That said, KHADAS’s new SBC is already on the drawing board. :slightly_smiling_face:
