Mac connecting with USB C-What am I doing wrong?

Hello community!

I have two Tone Boards and I’m having the same issue with both. I am trying to connect from my MacBook Air to the Tone Board vis a USB C double ended cable (not the one that came with the Tone Board because my computer does not have an “old school” USB jack.

I do not see the Tone Board selectable as an output device. What am I doing wrong?

Thank you,
Devon

Hi,

I’m experiencing exactly the same issue. The only way to get Tone Board to work with Mac is to use a USB-A to USB-C adapter. None of the USB-C to USB-C cables work.

I guess it’s related to the fact that Tone Board USB supports only USB 2 data protocol, which implies that your PC/Mac/Phone is acting as a host, and Tone Board is a “client”. Thus the “direction” of the cable matters - USB-A side must be connected to your Mac via adapter. If you try to connect reversed - it won’t work.

I believe this should be considered as a technical flaw of the Tone Board. If it’s equipped with USB-C, it’s expected you should be able to use any type of the cable with USB-C connector. If there were some difficulties to achieve that, why not to use old-school micro USB or USB-B?

Is this the type of device you used with success?
