Khadas can not update packages or install new software

Which system do you use? Android, Ubuntu, OOWOW or others?

Ubuntu

Which version of system do you use? Please provide the version of the system here:

24.04

Please describe your issue below:

I have reinstalled the operating system on my Khadas VIM3 pro. When I try to update all the packages using native “Software updater” - my Khadas reboots.
After the rebooting I try to update and upgrade all the packages using terminal. When I try to call the command:

sudo apt upgrade
or
sudo apt full-upgrade

I receive the next error:
dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run ‘sudo dpkg --configure -a’ to correct the problem.

This means - my Khadas is not able to install or update any software. I have tested other versions of Ubuntu desktop (22.04 and 20.04) - the situation is same for all the distros. I have tested also Android 11 (32 bit) - I can install any software from Android-stores, but when I try to change the resolution of the screen - the Khadas reboots and reset the resolution to 480p (the monitor supports upt to 768p). On all the Operationg systems the Khadas reboots after some time (ca. 10 minutes).

All the distros are installed on EMMC using USB burning tool.

Post a console log of your issue below:

dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.

Hello @Alexander_Gorodilov

Please reinstall with this image and try again:

https://dl.khadas.com/products/vim3/firmware/ubuntu/emmc/ubuntu-24.04/vim3-ubuntu-24.04-gnome-linux-5.15-fenix-1.7.3-241129-emmc.img.xz

This image I have also installed yesterday. The problem is same.
I have a plan for today.
I want to try to install an another OS-image in a TF-card today and load from the external TF-card.

Which package you can’t install? Please provide more details to us to reproduce this issue.

The details are described above - every package can not be installed. Even if I try to call:
sudo apt upgrade
or
sudo apt full-upgrade
or
sudo apt install firefox

In all the cases I receive:
dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run ‘sudo dpkg --configure -a’ to correct the problem.

Hi @Alexander_Gorodilov,

I tried with a fresh install of ubuntu image thats shared by @numbqq above. Ran sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade -y on the same and it worked fine.

I do remember a different issue though which I think might be the cause of the what you are experiencing. The issue was that when display goes to sleep and is then awoken by the user, gnome session used to get killed. I believe the same happened with you while you were either installing some package or while package update was in progress. This could have left the dpkg to be in inconsistent state, making dpkg to through errors on subsequent runs.

Can you try doing a fresh install and the implement the fix from the issue I linked above. I believe that would prevent you from facing same issue again.

I have tried this image.
The result is same. My Khadas reboots by the upgrading.
I append the video of the first launch where I launch my Khadas, log in, connect to the internet and apply your commands:

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade -y

The Khadas falls when it tries to create locales. Watch the video from 5:12. Link to video

The device rebooted!!! Thats unexpected. Sorry, I missed that in your original post. I wonder if board was not getting enough power. How are you powering the board?

Really, I have changed my power supply for the last experiments and didn’t think about it. I think you found the problem - that is why I have same reboots also on Android 11. I will try to reinstall Ubuntu today and use my previous power supply and write about the result

Yes, the problem was in my power supply
