JTAG access on VIM boards

What’s the best way to access JTAG on the VIM boards?
My use case is debugging of bare metal ARM binaries.
I expect the Edge will allow access via the SD socket to the JTAG pins, and it might be similar on the Amlogic boards.
Or is there a better way?
