Is the Baud Rate for VIM1S different at boot?

Which system do you use? Android, Ubuntu, OOWOW or others?

Ubuntu

Which version of system do you use? Khadas official images, self built images, or others?

Ubuntu 22.04.2 LTS Khadas Official

Please describe your issue below:

I connect my USB-to-Serial monitor to Pins 18,19,20 as described in VIM1S Setup Serial Debug Console. I head over to my machine and issue a screen connect as so…

screen /dev/tty.usbserial-A10N3V2T 921600

I wish to see the bootlogs of the machine from the serial not just HDMI. All I get is uninteligible gibberish. However, after a while when I click on few keystrokes, I eventually get presented the login prompt.

Is the baud rate at boot time different?*

Hello @glimit

The default baudrate is 921600 for both u-boot and kernel.

Notice that VIM1S uses utf8 encoding on the console serial port.

Thanks @numbqq and @larchey , I think I spoke typed* a little too too soon. It turns out, it’s iTerm and screen, that were the culprits. I moved over to my ArchLinux and screen /dev/ttyUSB1 921600 worked from boot up as expected.

I might followup with what’s going on, but at least, I’m glad, I have a way to study this beautiful board better :+1: :dancer:
