How do I install Debian/Armbian on the VIM3? I’ve tried downloading the desktop image from Khadas VIM3 – Armbian and copying it to the microSD card with both Rufus and Etcher, but the VIM3 always boots to the eMMC.

Have you used OOWOW or Krescue to install it? That usually works the best.

try oowow → online scripts → install armbian

PS: was updated and checked for latest armbian images

I’d prefer not to overwrite the eMMC, and besides, I don’t know that those would boot from SD any better. I did get the microSD card plugged into a USB hub connected to a Linux computer and ran fsck on it. That gave me “Superblock invalid” and "Bad magic number in superblock while trying to open /dev/sdb. Copied the .img.xz image with dd, and now fsck says that it’s clean. I’ll try booting from it later.
