How to build the OpenWrt with the replaced kernel image?

Which Khadas SBC do you use?

VIM3

Which system do you use? Android, Ubuntu, OOWOW or others?

Openwrt 21.2.0

Which version of system do you use? Khadas official images, self built images, or others?

self built images

Please describe your issue below:

I use the github ti build the openwrt image(21.2.0) for VIM3 is OK.

Then I try to build the kernel to replace under the github but the can’t bootup and fail on the kernel.

This is my step for replacing the kernel.

  1. build the kernel
  2. copy the Image.gz and Image.gz.md5sum from the /module folder into openwrt build folder “khadas-openwrt/bin” and replcae the two files
  3. build the openwrt

Is there anything wrong?
Or how should I to replace the builded kernel image then build the openwrt image?

Hello @chouke

@hyphop will help you about this topic.

Guys any update? Do you plan on releasing latest update of OpenWrt for Vim3?

I will check it - and replay here later

Hi, this is probably off topic. I need help building OpenWRT but using the latest Ubuntu kernel. My situation is that I want to use Realtek dongles in a virtual machine because MacOS doesn’t let me use them for AP. I have an Ubuntu server setup running just perfect but I was wondering if I could succeed at building such image for x64 and run it in a VM instance like I do with ubuntu server. I have also applied CAKE to the ethernet interface and bufferbloat is taken care of just fine.
