Home Assistant, install from OOWOW OS library

Hi,
I’ve been using the Edge2 for the Home Assistant to be faster than the Raspberry Pi.
Up to now, this is great !
But everytime I use the OOWOW to replace the Home Assistant from the list, there are 2 errors:

image

This is taken right after the first boot !!

Is anyone will fix it in the OOWOW OS install ?
Or if you have instruction to revert the version ?

I’ve tried other way to install and there is always errors I cannot fixed.
Any help will be greatly apreciated.

Richard.

Could you tell us which version you used?

Hi,
yes, it is the version in the list of OS to install:

Right after it is installed, I reboot and wait 20 mins… just in case.
Then when I open the Home Assistant, after giving my name… I get those two errors.

I tried many times to revert back the version, but so many other errors block me.
Because of those error, new addition to Home Assistant doesn’t work, like ESPHome have issue updating, Frigate install with no error, once you reboot, it won’t start…

Hope someone can review and help, have a good one.
Richard.

Hello @_Rick

Can you check with this new version?

edge2-armbian-24.8.1-bookworm-vendor-6.1.75-homeassistant-minimal.img.xz

Hi numbqq,
thank you for the very rapid updates, here are the results:

  • The file you mentioned is in the OOWOW OS selection, but even when I reset the Edge2 it doesn’t download. I had to dnload manually and put it on USB and use the OOWOW to install it.
  • After 10 mins, I got this: the results is the same:

v6.1.75

Let me know if you need more information.

Thank you for any help you do, have a good one.
Richard.

You can install this image online with oowow.

Hi,

yes, I did, still the same issues.

you can see my answer in the message before.

Hello @_Rick

You can’t install this image (edge2-armbian-24.8.1-bookworm-vendor-6.1.75-homeassistant-minimal.img.xz) or installed but has issues?

Hi numbqq, In your previous message, you mentioned that I should install this version to test. However, in your last message, you mentioned that I should not use this version. Can you clarify?

Thank you for any help.
Richard.

Hello @_Rick

Please use this version to check edge2-armbian-24.8.1-bookworm-vendor-6.1.75-homeassistant-minimal.img.xz.

Hi,
I just re-installed and same issues:
v6.1.75_Oct_28_2024_00

Hope that help, have a good one.
Richard.

Hello @Armbian

Do you have any suggestion about this issue?

Thanks.

This is something new to us and we are going to look into ASAP.

As alternative option, one can try to build image with mainline (CURRENT / EDGE) based kernel, where this won’t be a problem. There are some issues with HDMI support, but that should not be a problem for this use case.

Hi,
is anyone reviewed the issue and modified the OOWOW installation file?
I’ve tried many other OS vs CGroup and the AppArmor for lower version and still not working.
The Edge2 seams to be great for future AI processor already on board.

If there is another way to install, I’m fine with it, as long as there is no error.

Hope someone reviewed this as the ArmBian OS team, stop looking into this as they mentioned the don’t support specific SBC.

Have a good one.
Richard.

Hi @_Rick

I didn’t got the AppArmor or CGroup errors on the latest Home Assistant image (armbian-24.11.1-edge2-bookworm-vendor-6.1.75-homeassistant-minimal.img.xz) . Could you please give this a try?

I did however noticed that sometimes, setup script that runs on first boot fails to detect wifi. If this happens then you can use nmtui to select your wifi network and then optionally restart hassio-supervisor service. If you don’t manually restart the service, the service will get restarted automatically after 10 minutes. So manually restarting service is just a step to save some time.

We will look into it more. HomeAssistan install is generally troublesome. There is another method that might work better:

  • start with minimal Debian (mainline kernel might be better for this use case, but several functions are lacking there …)
  • proceed this way
