@allquixotic There’s no way, all the firmware we produce comes with root privileges.
@allquixotic You can try Kodi with the Netflix addon.
Or you can use Magisk root to disable root to install the Netflix app from here
But you will need to flash the patched boot.img separately, not easy for normal users.
but it is still going to be limited to 480p quality.
You could look into Stremio + RD perhaps for educational purposes.
Having root on the Edge2 is useful, but apps like Netflix instantly block DRM because of it — the same thing sometimes happens with editing apps too. When I tried using an old version of Alight Motion, a few features were unstable on rooted firmware as well. It would be much easier if there were a simple way to disable root, especially for multimedia apps. For now, it seems like workaround methods are the only option.
To disable root for DRM on a custom ROM, you generally need to fully unroot. If you used Magisk, open the Magisk app, tap “Uninstall,” and choose “Complete Uninstall.” After a reboot, SafetyNet/Play Integrity should pass, and apps like Netflix should work.
If you need to keep root access toggleable, you can try Magisk’s “Hide” feature or a module like “Universal SafetyNet Fix,” but a complete uninstall is the most reliable fix for DRM. For other app compatibility issues after such changes, like with creative tools, you might find solutions by looking for a specific alight motion old version that’s more stable on modified systems.
Good luck, getting DRM working can be tricky.
