Controling the Cooling Fan in CoreElec

Please describe your issue below:

The fan only seems to run at startup. I would like to test it similar to under Ubuntu.

If you go to the CoreELEC settings menu, under hardware, you can set the fan to manual (turn off, on and chose the speed) or auto (it will work at different speeds in different setpoints).
