Can not get VIM3 into upgrade mode

open Usb Burning Tools, connect the cable to vim, then press the middle button quickly three times, the device should be detected

This only works on latest devices i have older version of vim3.
Also my uboot seems broken so only hardware upgrade mode is possible.
Maybe @numbqq or @Terry can help me

Can you provide the upgrade log for me? Including Upgrade with Power key and Upgrade with TST.
I don’t get useful information from your log

This is the only log I am getting in all the attempts, TST, Keymode and MRegister mode.

Update I’ve tried all the possible methods to sort m register and reset the board to get it to upgrade mode but it doesn’t seem to work.

@Terry @Kingsley is there any way to do hardware testing to see why is it reacting like this? The board was working fine and I did the green screen fix test with latest android on emmc and manjaro with green screen fix on sd card. Later I tired to flash Manjaro on emmc using our test script which worked fine before.

This is without any HDMI cable connected. If I was able to enter the uboot then I would have tried that.
I have already tried M Register method and that doesn’t let me enter the upgrade mode either.
Is there any other way ?

What’s the step for TST? Can you take a video for me?

TST Never worked for me as I think I have an older Vim3 Pro version but I have tried Pressing Functions 3 times within 2 seconds and it flash blue led and reboots as normal. The same method have worked fine on the vim1-v14.

I will take video of everything tonight and share it with you. I will record all the upgrade mode options.

As mentioned above, I have a working USB Cable which I just flashed latest Android on my Vim1 and Vim2 with the same cable and port on my laptop and it worked fine but not working with vim3.

This is the Key I am shorting. I will make a video of it and share it tonight.

Please make sure that the USB cable is connected to your host PC and works well.

Have you checked other USB cable ? Or other USB ports on your host PC ?

And what’s the hardware version of your board?

Ofcourse dear, Ive shown in the video that when I connect to vim2 it shows device connected in upgrade mode burning tool.

Yes tried with khada cable and also my phone cable and all 3 ports of my laptop vim2 works fine on all.

I can see 1907 from the side of the sink will remove the sink tomorrow and share an image.

What can be done? As I can see its not entering upgrade mode in all the methods.

Can you help to follow the steps one by one to narrow down the issue:

  • You never used the M-Registor on this VIM3 device, right?
  • Did you use the TST before? Is it work that time?
  • Can you help to check if the blue LED is shining when you operate the TST mode?
  • Can you help remove the DIY case and try to upgrade again? as the some USB-C cable with shorter plug, and might not with proper connection if with DIY-Case.

I see POC:D which means maskrom mode but there is not sign on burning tool.

Next I thought maybe my old laptop is not giving enough power so I tried with a new laptop and tried maskrom mode using the M register and I see POC:D not again no sign on burning tool.

UPDATE:I thought maybe I am using the older burning tool which is 2.1.73 so I installed 2.2.0 and still no luck with burning tool device detection.

What should be done in this case?

I am just curious, and I may have missed it, also it may not be relevant, but have you attempted to erase eMMC?

I have no way to access the device at all it doesn’t let me enter the uboot cli so can’t do anything.

is the board okay? diodes, ports, roads, etc.
By the way, do you remember what manipulations you did before the problem?

Yes the board was always inside diy case since the beginning with heatsink and fan. Never opened and never dropped.

I had Flashed Manjaro on emmc using the install script from armbian and it was working very well.
Then I wanted to test and build an emmc installer image like we at manjaro have for all other devices except amlogic socs, so I tried mainline uboot from fenix branch prebuilt image by hyphop and it fails then I was not able to get it to upgrade mode since then so I flashed android using Krescue and Android was working fine but still was not able to enter into upgrade mode with latest android image also.

Then I used Manjaro on sd card to test the install script which flashed perfectly and after the reboot its stuck in this situation.

Current situation:

  • Cannot get the device detected in upgrade mode in burning tool.
  • Cannot flash any rom using usb upgrade or sd.
  • Cannot enter uboot cli.
  • Cannot boot into sd card with any os including Krescue.

So is there any other way to recover? I suspect the typec port data connection might be the issue here.
