Bricked Edge V, can't access upgrade mode

Which system do you use? Android, Ubuntu, OOWOW or others?

kRescue

Which version of system do you use? Khadas official images, self built images, or others?

Please describe your issue below:

I have accidentally bricked my edgev with krescue. I was trying to wipe the standard android image from the eMMC and update uboot. I don’t remember what all I did in krescue, but once I rebooted the board would no longer boot.

I haven’t been able to get anything to boot since, and I haven’t been able to access upgrade mode to fix it. No matter what I try, I always get same log when booting (below).
I’ve tried:

  • Reflashing krescue on the SD card
  • Flashing other OSs on the SD card
  • Accessing upgrade mode using all possible methods listed here: Edge1 Boot into Upgrade Mode [Khadas Docs]
    • TST/Key/Serial/Mregister all gave the same log as below

Any way I can revive this board? Thank you!

Hello @superb

You can flash new image to revovery your board.

Hi! I’ve tried using TST mode, but it’s not working. The board doesn’t show up as a usb device and from the serial console appears to try and fail to boot normally

Please make sure:

  • Connect USB cable to Edge-V OTG port (bewteen HDMI and USB Host) and PC correctly or you can change to use other USB cable or USB host port on PC
  • When you quickly press FUNC three times, have you see the blue LED blink?

Confirmed I’m using the right USB port on the board. I tried a couple different USB cables, none of them worked. I also used another device to confirm the USB port works on the computer I’m trying to flash from.

The blue LED does blink a couple times when I press the FUNC button three times.

It seems that you flash the u-boot to spi flash, could you enter the u-boot command line ?

It seems that you flash the u-boot to spi flash

Whoops, that doesn’t sound great…

I haven’t been able to get to a u-boot shell yet. The method I’ve been trying is sending a space character through the serial console as it boots. Is there another way I can try?

When you try to boot into upgrade mode via TST what’s the output on the serial console?

I just double checked to be sure; I press the button three times, it waits just a sec, blinks, and prints the same log as my original post. Here is the exact log from the test I just did:

Hello @superb

Can you try to boot oowow from SD card?

  • Write oowow image to SD card, you can check this documentation

  • Insert the SD card to board

  • Force boot from SD card via TST mode

    • Just quick press FUNC in 3 seconds, then the board will reboot and boot from SD card

I just tried booting with the image you provided, no change :frowning:

Hello @superb

The TST mode should work in any situation to put your board enter upgrade mode.

Could you please shoot a video of all your operarions? We need to check what’s going wrong on your side.

I took two videos with and without the sdcard. The sdcard was flashed to the oowow image you gave me.

I couldn’t upload them to the forum, so here’s a link:

I manage to brick it too  and while trying to recover via M key I might have damaged PCB.

No method works and this is on serial no matter what I do:

Can be rescued?

Ohh,that’s too bad. we can send you a new one.

Can you enter upgrade mode via TST now? If so, you can try enter upgrade mode and flash a bootable ubuntu image to it. https://dl.khadas.com/products/edge1/firmware/ubuntu/emmc/edge-ubuntu-18.04-server-linux-4.4-fenix-1.1.1-220725-emmc.img.xz

No, the same. I tried the same procedure with vim3, works without a problem.

Thanks, no urgency with this. Will mention when getting other boards.
