Boot hangs with kernel 5.5 from eMMC

When I flash Edge_Ubuntu-server-bionic_Linux-5.5-rc2_arm64_EMMC_V0.8.3-20200110.img, even after fully erasing the eMMC, the boot process hangs at the same place every time. This is the firmware downloaded from the Khadas web site, not something I built. Board is Edge-V Pro. Same load in SD version boots fine.

Here is boot log:

@mountainman63 What power supply do you use ?

I use this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07YDRC8RM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I have also tried a USB-C to USB-C Thunderbolt cable to power the board and the boot hangs in the same place. The same build in the SD version boots fine with the above power adapter. I have really been scratching my head on this. I would appreciate any help. Thanks.

hi, it is possible to change the port, well, the power supply with a different cable to exclude this version

Wouldn’t try thunderbolt usb c cables, those are active cables with inbuilt circuitry, could be messing with your system

@Frank have you personally been able to get a 5.5 or better kernel to boot eMMC on an Edge-V? If so, what power supply do you use? Do you use a standard or custom build? Thanks.

@mountainman63 use a power supply rated 15W or above when running an RK3399, Definitely higher if more peripherals are attached

I’m sure that Khadas employees use exclusively their proprietary power supplies

Yes, of course, why would a person not use what they have created

in any case, the user must understand that there is less chance of running into trouble with the original power supply!

Yes, I agree, it would rule out the problem of power supply compatibility when running the first boot, testing etc…
