VIM3 shutdown every few mins

I am a python developer using OpenCV, Tensorflow running VIM3_Ubuntu-server-focal_Linux-4.9_arm64_SD-USB_V0.9-20200530 on VIM3Pro board.

The board keeps shutting down sometimes rebooting every few minutes. Wifi seems to be slow and there are high latencies. Fan is always running with fan_mode=low.

How do I fix the random shutdown/reboot issues?

Hello, what kind of power supply do you have, similar behavior with all firmwares? it is also necessary to provide the processor with cooling.

@dexterac welcome to the community,
I suggest you update your image first, and see if problem persists later,

you can set the Fan to high in boot/env.txt
regarding wifi, which band are you using 802.11bgn or ac ?
and if using bgn bands, are you using any USB3.0 devices ?

cheers

Are you saying that the assembly itself is buggy?

its been discussed many at times, the v200530 images have a few bugs that are solved with updating the image, i’ve personally tested it myself, and i can verify it

I remember this, but I do not remember that there were complaints about the reboot, did you also have this firmware version going to reboot?

I am powering this with powerbank that is fully charged.
I tried VIM3_Debian-server-buster_Linux-5.9-rc2_arm64_SD-USB_V0.9.3-200907. This would fail installing OpenCV.

I have heatsink and fan installed. Fan runs all the time.

I have recently updated and upgraded the OS.

didn’t have the same scenario, so I can’t quote on reboot problems, but v200530 was a bit buggy, so I’m gonna have to start with an assumption, if the reboot isn’t necessarily related to v200530, and happens on other firmware as well, we can strike assumptions off the list.

@dexterac it works only on ubuntu afak.
maybe you can try with Ubuntu-bionic image, see if that works ?
I can whip up an image in about an hour if you need it.

try using a standard power supply to understand, 12 volts 2 amps.

new image would be appreciated. Can you include OpenCV in the image?
Installing dependencies and then OpenCV takes very long.
I had installed the Ubuntu image using krescue on my eMMC drive.

then you need Profile - hyphop - Khadas Community

dmesg output before board reboots

same result. I am using different powersupply and it still reboots.
How do I monitor the voltage and current on the board?

You have a Krescue build, contact Hyphop for help, precede the name with an “@” symbol.
Good luck to you!

Thanks @Vladimir.v.v

@hyphop : Would you be able to help with a new Linux OS for the Khadas VIM3 with OpenCV, Tensorflow and Python3 installed?
I would like to install this on my eMMC drive using the krescue SD card.

@dexterac I’m building it for you at the moment
included packages are, python3, OpenCV, and tensorflow

can you just specify the exact package names?
eg. like sudo apt install tensorflow

I’m also wondering if you can succeed or not, you promised someone, but you never succeeded :grimacing:

apt update
apt upgrade
apt install git wget build-essential python3-dev python3-pip
apt install libopencv-dev
pip3 install opencv-python

@dexterac building coming up.
configuration:
image

you need to do pip installs yourself, as it can’t be done during build time…
all the other apt packages will be pre-installed no worries
