Please describe your issue below:

I managed to successfully flash Ubuntu Linux 4.9 using the usb burn tool. From here I managed to run Ubuntu Linux 5.18 on the micro sd card. However, when I flash to eMMC the VIM3 does not boot anymore. Even when I reinsert the micro sd it doesn’t boot from there as well.

After this final image, it just died

hello @fmagueflor-sf
The firmware I’m using here is vim3-ubuntu-20.04-gnome-linux-5.18-fenix-1.1.1-220725.img.xz Testing is normal.

You can click this link vim3-ubuntu-20.04-gnome-linux-5.18-fenix-1.1.1-220725.img.xz to get the firmware I used.

The documentation provides an easy way to install firmware to an external store. VIM3/3L Install OS Into External Storage

Good luck trying again

Hi, I cannot access the website http://192.168.31.250/products/sbc/vim3/install-os/install-os-into-external-storage.

Also, this is the exact img file that I used when flashing to the emmc from the SD Card. It does not work on my end.

Link posted is fine, yours is pointing to your local 192…

Hi. The link I cannot access is the VIM3/3L Install OS Into External Storage link

Also the .img.xz link sent to me is the exact same img file that I used when I tried installing to eMMC.

vim3-ubuntu-20.04-gnome-linux-4.9-fenix-1.1.1-220915-emmc-develop.img This is what I used initially so that I can actually boot anything. I flashed this using the usb burn tool provided.

When that was functioning I etched this: vim3-ubuntu-20.04-gnome-linux-5.18-fenix-1.1.1-220725.img to my uSD card (which is the exact thing you sent me). It works only when I boot directly from the SD card.

However, the moment I install it to my emmc using sudo emmc-install and reset the device, there is no display and it does not boot.

That is how the image was built, you would need an image for emmc.

Ah. Am I correct that there is no way at all to get the latest mainline linux onto the eMMC?

Hello @fmagueflor-sf

We checked this image write to eMMC and work on our side.

https://dl.khadas.com/products/vim3/firmware/Ubuntu/SD_USB/vim3-ubuntu-20.04-gnome-linux-5.18-fenix-1.1.1-220725.img.xz

So should I try flashing it using the burn tool?

I also just want to reiterate that NOTHING boots if I install to eMMC from ubuntu 5.18 itself running on the SD Card.

Hello @fmagueflor-sf

Have you checked the image we provided above?

And if it is possiable please provide the full boot log of uart.

https://docs.khadas.com/linux/vim3/SetupSerialTool.html

Yes I have checked that exact same image.
This is the procedure I do:

  1. Flash vim3-ubuntu-20.04-gnome-linux-4.9-fenix-1.1.1-220915-emmc-develop.img using burn tool
  2. Boot to etched vim3-ubuntu-20.04-gnome-linux-5.18-fenix-1.1.1-220725.img on sd card
  3. Install vim3-ubuntu-20.04-gnome-linux-5.18-fenix-1.1.1-220725.img using sudo emmc-install
  4. Reboot, then get no display. It’s soft bricked. Cannot boot into 5.18 flashed (no sd card), cannot boot into 5.18 (with SD card).

I also do not have a UART cable sorry.

Hello @fmagueflor-sf

Could you tell me you VIM3 is Basic or Pro? And how about the hardware version ? V12 or V13?

I’m pretty sure it’s the VIM3 Basic V13

it’s the one offered there
