[ROM] SC VIM3L Pie ATV Debug/User builds v2 20200120

Hi there guys and girls, one more rom/fw for you all!
Many thks to Khadas for sending me the device to play
And many thks to @Robert for be my beta tester
This rom is as “TRUE” to AndroidTV as possible…
Build from Latest source.
Debug Build

IF YOU HAVE TO MANY ISSUES IN THE BUILD AFTER FLASH EVEN IF THE FLASH WENT OK, JUST REFLASH AGAIN THE IMG BECAUSE YOU GOT A BAD FLASH EVEN IF IT SAID IT WAS OK.

Overvations:

  • After the VIM3L boot and it shows the language screen pls let it idle there for 1 or 2 min so background tasks finish.
  • When you finish setup and you are on launcher screen, let it also idle there for 5 min when playstore suggestions appears on main screen of launcher go to play store and manual update the apps since in 1º boot looks like it wont auto update the core apps that is needed to be updated.
  • Both above are only done 1 time on first boot after flash…
  • First time you put the Vim3L to sleep it will take long time to actually sleep… dont worry is normal it will eventually sleep, this only happens 1 time after a power cycle after that it will go to sleep fine and “fast”.

Differences of USER and USERDEBUG builds:

User Build : This build is done to be as close to a company rls as possible, it does not have root or twrp and is compiled with rls keys and SELINUX enforced, what this means for you?
Well it means lot more apps show in Playstore that didn’t show before, (EX: my isp androidtv live tv app, only shows in Playstore non rooted and SELINUX enforced devices, also the streams in the app does not even play in rooted devices.). Like this there’s lots of other ISP/NON ISP apps Out there…

UserDebug Build: This build does have root, twrp, selinux is permissive and some other stuff you will see in changelog down there…, but of course you will lose the above…

Changelog Final v2:

  • Used latest SDK
  • Again used AndroidTV build path.
  • Added Reboot to another OS or can also be used to reboot to TWRP if you do not have any sdcard or usb stick with other OS connected ( DEBUG Build Only )
  • Improved lots of AndroidTV apps
  • Google Webview is now default, plz let me know if you find any issues and i switch back to AOSP webview.
  • Added support for many Gamepads, and i mean really many. ( Kernel Drivers )
  • And many many many other stuff…

Bugs?:

  • Of course there is bugs… there always be bugs…
  • Googlecast will not work ok, nothing i can do to fix it since it need certification.
  • Netflix for AndroidTV will not work at all, so use regular netflix already present in the rom.
  • Rotation in advanced settings is disabled… well not really a bug… but lol i bet someone will mention it :stuck_out_tongue:

Changelog v1:

  • ATV Build Path used.
  • Increased vmalloc to 512mb
  • Added AFRD app, and is working fine. ( Many thks to its creator/s )
  • Enabled write/delete to external storages without asking for permission.
  • Custom root ( Only on userdebug build, this is that build of course doh… LOL…)
  • Small change in kernel.
  • Fixed force_land.
  • Reduce the time the mouse icon stays on screen.
  • Removed some “Null” pop ups
  • Some fixes to settings provider.
  • Modified DroidSettings, “More Settings” now calls white settings.
  • Modified TVSettings, added “Display” to menu to call DroidSettings
  • Removed White settings just like true ATV.
  • Double click home brings up Recent Apps in Grid View…
  • Long press home calls all apps
  • Long press Mic Key in remote calls assistant ( only tested in Beelink King Remote )
  • Added many KL’s for many keyboards.
  • Added Beelink King remote support. ( more to be added in the future )
  • Added Provision.
  • Density set to 320dpi as true ATV.
  • Added some apps. ( not many since i dont like to add to much crap in my roms )
  • Compilation done with optimizations.
  • Changed system and vendor partitions size.
  • Optimized lots of stuff.
  • Custom Gapps ATV.
  • Vulkan support.
  • Removed 1. boot pair remote page.
  • Some small fixes to systemui.
  • Some other minor tweaks.
  • I know there are more… i but i can’t remember now, keeping a good log is not my strong at least when is not for my work place, lol…

Bugs v1:

  • Of course there is bugs… there always be bugs…
  • Googlecast will not work ok, nothing i can do to fix it since it need certification.
  • Netflix for AndroidTV will not work at all, so use regular netflix already present in the rom.

Thanks for the great work superceleron.

I’ve been using this for a bit now with only one issue. I have the vim3l hooked up with the tone board, which works fine until the system goes into sleep mode. Once it wakes back up, sound no longer comes from the tone board until the whole system is rebooted.

hmm not much i can help you since i dont have a tone board, but from what you tell me looks like something is not “waking” up!

@superceleron I couldn’t install your image according to this instruction. Tell me, if you know any way to install from under Linux (I can’t use a virtual machine, and the script on the github Khadas team does not work because it is designed for Ubuntu Linux, and I have Archlinux with a different files OS structure).

sorry mate i cant help you with it, i dont use linux to burn images… i use ubuntu as my main system but i keep another old pc with windows just for img burn…
But if i can remember correctly you can burn a img using a sdcard… @RDFTKV do you remember the procedure?
I can’t at the moment…

hi, superceleron, what do you think, how much artificial intelligence can be implemented in our board, for tv box fans, I think there is good potential there ?!

Well the potencial is there, now… the soft needs to done to take all potencial out it, that is the tricky part!

Yes, especially since the future lies with artificial intelligence!
Your opinion was important to me, about the a311d with the possibility of artificial intelligence, from the point of view of a TV set-top box, OS android!

I did want to add that the card method works on the VIM3 and other VIM models. I do not have VIM3L for testing, so I only assume it will work on the 3L.

fantastic build superceleron! I have a question about the hdmi resolutions supported. My monitor is only being detected at 1920x540i60hz even though it is capable of 2560x1440p60hz. Do you have a similar workaround to the one used for the Edge-V where you can delete the resolution_white.xml file ? tia !

not at this time, but is strange you monitor does that…
It can only be the fw from the monitor sending wrong information to the khadas device!

@superceleron Is there a voice control option in the firmware (for VIm3L)?

well it have google assistant, and works fine in here!

Well… i have some bad news for you guys… i had a issue with my home build server hdd and i lost 3 sdk… 2 khadas ones and one from work :frowning:
So this means all changes i did to vim’s sdk( old sdk and newer sdk) are now lost :frowning:
Its going to take a while to get all back again(add all changes to sdk, if i can remember all of them), so you guys going to wait a bit longer!
