USB burning tool?
krescue?
USB/SD boot and then mount EMMC?

USB burning tool appears to be one way.
krescue requires the micro SD card and I do not have access to the micro SD card slot. Nor would that be practical to mess with the micro SD every time I need to troubleshoot something.
Thus USB boot and then mounting the EMMC is the only way for me.
